Class 4D takes a trip

On the week of the 31st of August we, the graduates of class 4.D, went on a graduation trip. Starting a 10-hour trip from the center of Rijeka, we headed off to Prague. While travelling there, however, we took some breaks, filling our time by visiting the Hluboka Castle.

There, we were led all through the castle by guides, finding out new information about the castle itself and its previous owners. The first day was mostly spent on the travel itself, but despite that, we managed to see one of the most beautiful castles in the world. After spending some time there, the trip to Prague continued. The bus dropped us off right in front of our hotel where our first day of the trip ended. Each day of the trip the students had an organized night out to clubs, so after arriving to our rooms, we took a little break and headed straight back out into the night.

After having breakfast, we were taken to the center of Prague for sightseeing. Under guidance, we visited the famous Charles Bridge, the St. Nicholas Church and, of course, the well-known Astronomical Clock in the very heart of Prague.

Lunch was organized in an alehouse not very far from the center. Having a few hours of free time, we explored the city on our own; most of us headed off to buy souvenirs for home, some went to places we haven’t seen with the guide, while some just sat down and relaxed. It’s needless to say that this had been a day filled with walking, and we were all quite exhausted. With soreness, we headed back to our hotel, ate dinner and retreated to our rooms, only to get ready and go out in the evening.

Sightseeing was also a planned activity on the third day of our trip. We explored the upper part of the city, along with the St. Vitus Cathedral which was quite important for our profession, considering it was the best example of what we spent our first three years studying about. After that, we were taken to the Prague ZOO, which was a bother as much as a delight; most of us were already exhausted, and considering the ZOO was enormous, some of us didn’t really have the will to walk all around it. Nonetheless, we got to see the ZOO. Later, after a couple of hours of observing animals, we headed back to our hotel where, as usual, we had dinner and a night out.

Day four started off by having breakfast at the hotel and leaving straight for Berlin. However, we stopped at Dresden, sightseeing and having some free time to wander around. Among everything else, we got to see Semperoper, the Dresden Castle and the Zwinger Palace. After quite a long walk, the trip to Berlin continued. We didn’t see much of the city that day, since we arrived straight to the hostel, and finished our day there.

The fifth day began with breakfast, just like any day so far. After getting ready for the whole day ahead of us, we headed off to the center of Berlin. Walking through the Tiergarten Park, we reached the Potsdamer platz and Checkpoint Charlie, where we had some free time. We also got to see the Berlin wall; well, what’s left of it. Also, we visited the Brandenburg Gate, and continued to see the Memorial of the Murdered Jews of Europe, finding out many interesting facts about it. Not long after that, we headed back to the hostel where we had dinner and a night out.

The next morning we had breakfast, leaving the hostel straight for Potsdam, where we got to see Sanssouci, an enormous lot and palace, surrounded by a park which was so big it was just impossible to walk through all of it. After that, Nurnberg was our next destination. It didn’t take long to get there; when we did, we had a small break, before heading back out to see a bit of the town itself.

The seventh and final day of our trip consisted of walking through Nurnberg once again, then heading off for Dachau, the first concentration camp to exist in Germany. There, we were guided through the whole camp and even watched a movie about the camp itself and how it came to exist. After having lunch there, home was the only destination left.

The trip was long and quite tough, considering how much walking there was and not enough time to rest. Nonetheless, we all came back home safe and sound, filled with new experiences we will probably never forget.
